I havent found a picture form Spring Training yet, but on Mike'd Up a caller said Joba Chamberlain is massive.. i'm sure pics will hit the net soon, but I found this one from about a week ago, according to the site, and he looks different with his receeding hairline, beard and tat's coming out of his shirt, but I've only ever seen hiim in Uniform so its hard to tell.

He looks like a janitor in that picture. Here's Mark Feinsands take on it.... No picture though

Fitness level is obviously a big component of playing professional sports, but probably slightly less important in baseball where you can pack on a few extra pounds & still be extrememly successful. I definitely don't think Joba gaining weight is a good thing for either himself or the team, but I'd like to see how well he pitches in Spring Training before I completely pass judgement on this issue. I seem to remember another fairly *ahem* large-bodied Yankees pitcher by the name of Wells who pitched a perfect game. And, who knows? Joba can easily lose the extra weight he gained during Spring Training now that he's back with the team. Basically, I think this issue can definitely be a future concern but it's too early to let it worry fans right now.

I agree ILoveBaseball, it is a bit early to worry. I don't think he looks very out of shape but you can definitely tell he's gained weight, his face looks like it is fuller. Hopefully he gets back in shape soon.

The man looks as fat as he ever did but not much worse than I remember
