View Full Version : Boomer & Carton vs Mike Francesa?
I heard Boomer say months ago that he had never hear Mike Franceasa's theme song for Mike'd Up. Francesa picked this song in September of 2008 so its been 2 1/2 years. When I heard him (Boomer) say that to Carton back in winter I took it as a shot at Francesa. You have a morning show on the same station as the all time great Mike Francesa and you never even listen to his show once in 2 1/2 years? Even if that's true then why go out of your way to admit it?
At the end of todays show I caught Carton saying Francesas rating were 5 times higher then Michael Kays and basically nobody ESPN has will compete with WFan shows.. In any case, Boomer said its stupid to argue about such things, and Carton said WFan is a big family and they have to stick up for each other, and Boomer said something along the lines of "even if they don't stick up for us". I know that quote is not exact and I hope someone can put the correct quote, but the main idea was Boomer referencing that Francesa had said something derogatory back when the Boomer and Carton show started off.
This is kinda old news but does anybody know exactly what this is all about?

I heard someone say Carton took a shot at Francesa when they were in Dallas for Super bowl week. Not sure what it was all about though. I heard the end of the show this morning, but I couldnt give the exact quote.
If I had to guess i would say that Francesa suggested that the show wouldn't last long back in the early days of the Boomer/Carton show.
Well after watching that clip you could tell Boomer was a bit angry. Francesa is never going to speak the truth about anything. I don't think he likes B&C. But anyway I watched the show this morning and I also cannot recall what was said, I thought they were putting Michael Kay down and standing up for Francesa. Boomer never looks thrilled to be there so to me his attitude was the same. I think Boomer was also standing up for Wfan and his comments were directed at Michael Kay.
I saw that video month ago.. Looking at it again I guess its true Boomer doesnt say much of anything and may just be being polite by laughing while on the inside he want to rip off Mike Francesa face because Mike and Dog said he wouldnt last. Lighten up Boomer! if thats the only issue between them i'd be shocked
I picture azscene like IMus /stern... Mike opens the office door, "boomer who!?!" get the he'll out of my office!
Carton & Francesa hate each other.
Carton has a photoshop of Dupp that I made printed out & taped to his desk. it's been clearly visible on MSG.
have a look: http://matthewfunti.me/archives/706
Did you make the "hEllOOOOO" sign I see there?
And I have heard he morning show take little jabs here and there forever. I guess once they became firm in their position they felt it was safe to let loose on francesa
Jimmy from Brooklyn
Those guys are another group that need to get over it. its not Francesas job to make sure everybodys bottom is dry and their bottles are warmed up.
I am going to go out on a limb and say there is much more to it then just Francesa and Dog saying they didnt think Boomer would last. Anyway I had to come back and update this even though it is being updated on Funtimes site and BobsBlitz.com.. After having it be pointed out that those photos were on Cartons desk I have seen them there the last few days and my thoughts mirror Matthewfunti.me's blog (http://matthewfunti.me/archives/735). My question is how aware Francesa is of this situation and is he choosing to ignore it, or has he already made an issue of it but the news of the complaint hasnt been leaked yet? In either case, I love this poster:
I think the pictures are hilarious, but for Carton to put those up on the set is pretty unprofessional for a work place situation. I would think that Francesa and the other hosts are essentially co-workers and Mike would more then likely have a slam dunk decision against Boomer and Carton if he choose to be the uptight hard ass everybody accuses him of being. Its also a little sad to think that Carton might just be doing this because there is a band of internet folks that can identify those tiny pictures and think he's cool for doing it. If there isnt an actual conflict or reason for Carton to have issue with Mike, i think its kinda cheap and uncalled for (from a profession standpoint) but still its pretty damn funny when you get right down to it.

Thats a great poster and it sums it up, it will be entertaining to hear about this if it goes down. I'm looking forward to it
glad you guys dig the work -
my bet: there's more to it than meets the eye - Dupp is being a baby & Carton is replying in a similarly juvenile manner
I saw the pictures were gone this morning. Any news on what happened between the shows?
Wfan callers are bringing up something to Mike today, about something Carton said this morning. Anybody catch it? I didnt know anything was said until these callers brought it up to Francesa this afternoon
Another video showing why Boomer and Carton might have issue with Mike Francesa. They say this video is the last video of Mike and Dog on WFan together. anyway Francesa does take a nice shot at them

Carton cracked the Pope this morning when they were talking to Ed Marinaro.. Carton was wrong about something regarding who was Cornell's all time leading rusher, and when they found out he was wrong he said, "Hey, when we're wrong on this show we admit it.. not like some other people who work around here..."
I'm just going to paste my response from the other thread that I just locked. Guy asked what the beef was all about.
I knew yesterday when I heard Mike Francesa bring up to John Heyman that the story about Doc missing the parade was broken by ESPN the day before, that Boomer and Carton were going to have issue with that. Today Carton suggested that Mike knew Doc had said the same thing on their show months ago, and suggested he was pretending to think ESPN broke it.
I'm not sure how they would know for sure that Francesa was ever aware of that interview with Doc back in May, but they played the audio of Mike talking about it. They clearly were not happy.
Bobsblitz (http://www.bobsblitz.com/2011/10/mike-francesa-stabs-boomer-carton-in.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheNjFrogman+%28Bob%27s+Blitz%29) covered it today:
sorry the boss.....i should of noticed this thread. i saw this site last month and noticed the thread but just joined this forum today. i do remember mike and chris saying that they would only last 13 minutes. mike also said he could get boomer and carton off the air. chernoff told mike to calm down when mike came back from a commercial break.
Did Mike really say that? Well that's worth getting upset about.
Something I am just remembering is from the days when Mad Dog had that NFL preview show with Boomer.. and during the Intro Dog opened with something like "Well I guess someone was drunk this week.. Boomer is on the list of Hall of Fame Possibles" (I'm not sure what that list is called) But Boomer was extremely pissed off and didnt hide it. I wish someone had the audio from that show, Boomer basically told Dog the show wasnt going to start until Dog apologized.
Now, finally Francesa gets a caller who told him about the accusations Boomer and Carton levied towards him him this morning, about not crediting them with breaking the Doc Gooden story. Mikes response is exactly what I mention earlier, Mike says he didnt know about it, and didn't even know Gooden was on with them.
After listening to the spot with Jon Heyman it didn't seem like Francesa was going overboard with trying to credit ESPN for "breaking" the story.
Face it Boomer and Carton and Mike butt heads because they all have GIANT EGOS and think they are always right. Usually people like that don't mix together well.
As far as Dog and Boomer on that NFL preview show. I used to love how Dog would needle Boomer. Boomer falls into the category of athletes who believe that "if you never played the game, don't even try to tell me I am wrong about anything." I remember Dog and Boomer would be discussing something and Boomer would go into that mode and Dog would just randomly bring up a game where Boomer threw four interceptions and would ask Boomer if he remembered that game. Terrific Radio!
