The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Brendan Bell. Bell spent last season playing in the Swedish Elite League, but he has played in 101 NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Phoenix Coyotes and Ottawa Senators. Bell has been signed to provide depth in the Ranger's defensive core. Although Bell,28, may spend most of his time in the AHL with the Whale, he will be able to fit the role of a 7th defenseman. He is an extremely strong defenseman who uses his size to his advantage. Bell, an agile skater but not much of a hitter has used his skill efficiently in the NHL, maintaining a nose for strong defensive positioning. No contract terms have been disclosed as of yet.
