The Ranger's former captain Chris Drury announced his retirement today from the NHL after playing 12 seasons. Drury was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques with the 72nd pick in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He played in 892 NHL games for the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres and, New York Rangers.

Well thank you Chris Drury for retiring now. If you would have retired before the summer you could have saved the Ranger's some serious cap space but what did I expect, I wouldn't have left all that money on the table either.

Nice! But how can it still count against the cap if he retires? And why would he get paid any of it?

He got bought out and then retired. So when we bought him out he hadn't retired yet so it counts at as against the cap next year
