If you had told me Freddy Garcia would be pitching Game two (formerly Game three) of the ALDS, I would have had you committed. The Yankees took a chance on a journeyman in Garcia and he's ended up being one of their most reliable starting pitchers.

At the beginning of the year, there was a well chronicled battle for the fifth starter spot on the New York Yankees. While Bartolo Colon's comeback attempt was getting all the attention, Freddy Garcia was quietly winning his spot in the rotation.

Phil Hughes battled inconsistency and injury all year long, making him a question mark moving forward. A.J. Burnett was erratic and downright depressing in his own right, traits that greatly differed from Garcia.

He has become an "old reliable" type of veteran who you could count on to not only keep you in games, but get you some wins as well.

After Colon has seemingly hit a wall, Garcia's consistency has awarded him a start in the ALDS against the Tigers. And he is no stranger to playoff success.

Garcia has a 6-2 record, while pitching to a 3.11 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP. He was also apart of the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox, a post season that saw him go 3-0, with a 2.14 era.

Those numbers are nothing to be underestimated.

His consistent season combined with past playoff success should help Freddy Garcia shine in the 2011 MLB playoffs and gain some respect from fans around the league.

I think Freddie will be just fine today. He's been well all year long, no reason to expect him to fail just because it's October. He's been better then AJ, Bartolo and Hughes is hurt so no brainer to start him. I'll put it this way, I expect him to win this game today more then I expect CC to win tomorrow.

Garcia wasn't awful but those last two runs hurt. The bats are what will lose this one for us
