It seems today as though it is the end of an area for the New York Rangers. Sean Avery has been put on waivers by the Rangers. His agent Pat Morris, confirmed the news in an interview with a Toronto radio station. However, he does not think that Avery will be claimed because of his salary. The Rangers also were informed forward Dale Weise has been claimed on waivers by the Vancouver Canucks. Weise was cut by the Rangers on Saturday and was expected to report to Connecticut before being claimed. The Rangers have a mere $239,666 of cap space including Avery, and the idea of adding a veteran d-man would be nearly impossible. The last roster spot on the team was between Erik Christensenís $925,000 contract and Avery's $4million. This move opens some space for the Rangers, however, it will seem odd at MSG without the "AVERY, AVERY" chants ringing through the Garden. However, with the youth movement the Rangers are on and Avery and coach John Tortorella's differences, the moved seemed imminent for the squad. That imminent day is today.
