View Full Version : Hip Hip Jorge

An interesting thing happened today as I watched the Posada press conference. I became choked up and felt a sadness that I had not truly felt before. I felt a it a little when Andy Pettitte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Pettitte) retired following the 2010 season.

I am getting older.

I distinctly remember Jorge Posada coming up the big club in 1995 and getting his first his and appearing as a pinch runner. Yes, a pinch runner. My dad said to keep an eye on him as he would eventually be the next Yankee catcher. As always, fathers are right and Jorge became the next Yankee catcher and joined the ranks of Yogi and Munson among not only the great catchers in Yankees history, but also great Yankees.

As I listened to Jorge speak this afternoon, I happily relived each great memory of Jorge's career. The most memorable for me being the bloop double during game 7 of the 2003 ALCS.

I watched that moment with friends, while out at a club. Pure excitement and joy are all I can remember.

The reason I feel older is because, like Pettitte, Jorge Posada was a Yankee that I grew up watching, like my father watched and tells stories of Mickey Mantle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Mantle), and will undoubtedly tell my kids about.

A huge THANK YOU to Jorge Posada for providing me with such wonderful memories and moments that will live on in Yankees-lore.

Catching, in the bullpen, numbah twen-tee, JOR-ge PO-sa-DA.
