View Full Version : Burnett deal FINALLY complete; What's next?

The deal sending AJ Burnett to the Pirates is finally complete. The commissioner's office should approve it by tomorrow morning the latest. The Pirates will pay $5M of his contract this year and $8M next year. In return, the Yankees will receive low level prospects, Diego Moreno(RHP) and Exicardo Cayones(OF).
I won't bore you with their statistics. Neither will likely ever make it to the majors. The important part of the deal is the money. The Yankees can now go out and sign Eric Chavez and Raul Ibanez. Chavez will be insurance for A-Rod, and Ibanez will be their DH against righties and back up OF. Matsui is out of the question. Damon remains a possibility if they can't sign Ibanez.

This trade was an official salary dump. I read that Moreno can throw 98, but no control and Cayones can hit, but not for power. They could pan out, but I think this was just for the Yankees to get Burnett off the team.

That all they needed to do.
