With their most recent win against the Phillies on Thursday night 5-1 over the Phil's they improved their overall season record to 5-2. This great start all begins with the great start for the pitching staff. Johan Santana has had to solid starts in a row and only giving up 1 run in 10 innings work. R.A. Dickey has had 14 quality starts in a row and had another one against the Phillies on tuesday. He went 7 innings and have up 1 run. Jon Niese had a no-hitter for 7 innings and got the win. The other part of the success has been the bullpen. Frank Francisco has 3 saves in 3 opportunities. Parnell,Byrdak, and Rausch have all been fantastic coming out of the pen. If this pitching keeps up who knows where this team can go.
Then there's the other side of the game. The offense, I'd put it as average right now but it's been good enough. Duda's two homerun game and Ruben Tejada's emergence.
Also Murphy and Wight have been solid offensive weapons. Murphy had the walk off against the Nationals. And Wright had some early RBI's. And a sign if hope for Jason Bay with his first homerun of the year against the Phillies hopefully showed some things to come.
The only negative through all of this has been the injury to David Wright. He fractured his pinky finger sliding back into a base. He did not play Friday increasing the chance that he will land on the DL. Hopefully that's not te case and he will be back playing shortly, although I believe he will land on the DL.
