On a night were the headlines were supposed to be about the return of Jose Reyes to Citi Field, it wasnt he went 0-4 and had no impact on the outcome of the game at all. Tonight's game was about the great catch in center field by Kirk Nieuwenhuis that most likely robbed Reyes of at least a triple. The Mets only scored 2 runs and they were scored in the strangest of ways. Duda had a RBI infield single and Thole walked with the bases loaded to give the Mets their two runs. The Mets lineup did lack power tonight because there was no Jason Bay and Ike Davis is currently in the middle of a slump.
But what really kept the Mets in the game last night was the pitching from their ace Johan Santana and the bullpen. Johan pitched 7 innings gave up 1 run and struck out 11 batters. It was arguebly Johan's best start so far. The bullpen picked it up from their with Frank Francisco closing the door in the 9th.
With tonight's win the Mets get out of their mini 2-game losing streak and get back on their winning ways. Tonight for the Mets it will be R.A. Dickey as the Mets go for 2 wins in a row.
