It was the beginning of a new series for the Rangers and a clean slate. Whats behind them is behind them, focus on the opponent in front of you and thats exactley what they did on Saturday when they beat the Washington Capitals 3-1. It was highlited by the stellar play by Chris Krieder, who the Rangers signed 2 weeks ago fresh off of a National title at Boston College. Krieder had a goal and an assist in Game 1, who was on the stellar second line with Callahan and Stepan. In the game Derek Stepan also recorded his 5th point of the playoffs. The defense of Mcdonagh and Girardi helped the winning cause it shut down not so great number 8 Alexander Ovechkin. He was held off the scoresheet the whole game and jeered on by a energy packed Garden crowd.
Other highlights in the game came from Rangers foward Artem Anisimov snapped a scoreless tie with 7:22 to play in the second, burying a wraparound attempt to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 12:38. From then on it was all Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist was also a huge reason why the Rangers got the W on Saturday. Lundqvist stopped 17 of 18 shots the Capitals fired at him and gave up only one goal. When the buzzer sounded at the end of the third period it was a well deserved win for the blueshirts, it was an important one too. Winning the first game of the series is huge and it's nice to start out with a lead.
Up next for the Rangers is Game 2, which is Monday at the Garden. The puck drops around 7:30. A 2-0 lead for the Blueshirts would be huge heading to Washington for Games 3 & 4. Let's go Rangers!
