The New York Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist came through as king of the crease, shutting out the New Jersey Devils in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. He was no doubtly the player of the game and was the reason the Rangers got the W on Monday Night. Lundqvist was dominant in making 21 stops to lead the way in the Blueshirts' 3-0 win at Madison Square Garden. The King wasn't the only reason the BlueShirts got the W on Monday. The All-Star blueliner Dan Girardi blasted one past Brodeur just 53 seconds into the third period to snap a scoreless tie and record his second goal of the playoffs. It was a big goal and it woke up the Rangers and the Garden crowd. Another key piece in the W was Chris Kreider. Kreider responded in his first taste of the Rangers-Devils rivalry with a key power-play goal in the third. Burying a feed from Anisimov, the 21-year-old winger ripped one past Brodeur at the 12-minute mark for a 2-0 Rangers lead. After the goal it was Kreider's second point of the night after his assist on the Girardi goal.
The Defense was also huge, mainly pretaining to Ryan Mcdonagh. Defenseman Ryan McDonagh effectively snuffed out the Devilsí two best scoring chances of the first period with an inspired back-checking effort. He locked down the Devils' two best scorers in Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise. All this effort on both the offensive and defensive side of the puck resulted in a 3-0 Rangers win. Game 1 is always a huge win in any series giving the Rangers all the mojo heading into Game 2.
