Remember when everyone said this was a game the Giants had no chance at winning? Never tell that to Tom Coughlin and his squad as yesterday once again the Giants marched into Candlestick park and beat the 49ers again in a pivotal regular season game. This was a meausuring stick game for the Giants to see where they currently stand in the NFC race and boy will they be a force. When it was over, the Giants reminded everyone who the defending Super Bowl champions are and how good their team still is. The giants defense came up with it's best performence of the season, and Eli Manning and the offense were excellent once again. They moved the ball successfully against the Best defense in the NFL. Let's start it off with the defensive play, they got the sacks they wanted from Tuck, JPP, and Umenyoria. But it was the interceptions were the deciding blow that put the Giants in the driver's seat for the rest of the game. In total there were three rare interceptions of Alex Smith. Giants corners Prince Amukamara picked off a pass in the first half and Antrel Rolle intercepted Smith twice in the third quarter, setting up two Lawerence Tynes field goals. Another blow to the 49ers was the disapperance of TE Vernon Davis. He made just two catches for 13 yards in the first three quarters. The Giants linebackers were always aware and totally on top of where Davis was on the field at all times. Remember all of that trash talk during the week between Victor Cruz and Carlos Rodgers. Cruz was catcing Manning's bullets all day and Rodgers was no match for him. Cruz had 6 receptions 58 yards, with 1 TD, just another day at the office for Victor. The 49ers special teams unit was also a mess tonight including David Akers missing not one but two field goals and the kickoff unit allowing a 66-yard David Wilson kick return. This win was a huge momentum win for the Giants going into a big divison against Robert Griffin the third and the Washington Redskins. And at 0-2 in the divison the Giants need this divison win against the Redskins this week.
